The Market History

The Norton Friends & Farmers Market is a new market, opening in June 2009 under the sponsorship of the City of Norton.  With an average of 23 vendors per week, our first season was a huge success as everyone came together to celebrate food and community.

Items sold at the market include locally grown fresh produce, homemade baked goods, honey, jam, jellies, organic free-range poultry, and eggs.  Fresh cut flowers and herbs are available by season, as well as bedding plants, potted plants, flower arangements and homemade crafts and original artwork.  Each and every item is either grown or made locally by those selling them.

Special events are offered weekly, including local music, health fairs, clogging, cooking demonstrations by area chefs, rug-making, wool-spinning, and apple butter stir-offs.  During the 2009 season, an apple fest featuring products from the local apple harvest was especially popular!  Free contest give-aways and weekly children's activities also proved successful.

Shopping at the Norton Friends & Farmers Market is sure to bring a smile to the faces of those seeking “local flavor” and a sampling of southern Appalachian culture, and who want to combine shopping with education about nutrition, farming, and fun.
