The Market History

The Lebanon Farmers' Market was founded in 1991 by Junior Cassell and Curtis Cox on the grounds of the Lebanon Middle School. In 2000, the market was over-seen and promoted by the Russell County Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber handed the market to the Town of Lebanon during mid-season of 2009 so advancements to the market could be made. In January 2010, the Russell County IDA was awarded a grant to build the market a covered structure in the parking lot of the Russell County Government Center with land donated by the IDA. This home for the farmers and vendors was built in time for the 2010 market season. The Town of Lebanon is proud to offer this opportunity to the farmers and vendors free of charge. The Town of Lebanon hopes that 2011 will be another successful season.  Happy 20 Years LFM!

About the Market

The 2010 season ended with over eighty registered vendors.  We hope the 20th year of LFM will be another year of growth in our vending numbers.  Some of the items that will be available for the 2011 season are cabbage, beans, jams/jellies, craft items, homemade breads and cakes, carrots, peppers, blackberries, blueberries, apple trees, fresh ground meal, honey, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, onions, potatoes, molasses, farm-fresh eggs, pumpkins, turnips and more.

The 2011 season is a year of celebration for local farmers.  Advancement at LFM will continue with the covered structure that houses 24 vendors. The Mission Statement for the 2011 market season is:

The Lebanon Farmers’ Market is owned and maintained by the Town of Lebanon to provide a location for Virginia Farmers, gardeners, food producers and artists to market Virginia grown produce, USDA approved meats, eggs, plants, honey, homemade products (items made with local produce like jam / jelly, apple butter, breads…) and artwork (sewn items, drawings, value added agriculture …) to all income levels of the public.  By including a variety of food voucher programs, this market allows all income levels the ability to buy fresh local items, support their local economy, and Virginia farmers, gardeners, food producers, and artists.

This market does accept Senior Vouchers, EBT/Snap and debit cards.

Finding the Market

Lebanon:  US Hwy. 19 to the second Lebanon Exit (from either direction).  At the stop light, turn left onto Main Street.  Follow Main Street approximately 1/2 mile.  Turn right onto Highland Drive past Wendy's into the Russell County Government Center Parking Lot.  The market is located in the lower portion of the Government Center parking lot.  Look for the green roof and silver picnic tables.
